Viva Las Vegas at Great Wyrley Care Home!

A care home is set to bring Las Vegas to Great Wyrley with a day of activities..

Lakeview Care Home, on Stafford Road, is set to hold a Las Vegas day on Thursday (Oct 29).

Residents and staff will be serenaded at the event by an Elvis impersonator, in a tribute to the popular singer.

A Vegas-style casino will also be set up at the home, with residents being able to gamble with chips on games such as roulette, black jack and craps.

Kerry Jackson, the Care Home’s manager, said: “The Las Vegas day is going to be a great event for everyone at the home to get involved in.

“We decided to organise the event as something a bit different for our residents who cannot wait to see the Elvis impersonator in action. A lot of them really enjoy listening to that style of music and being able to reminisce.

“Lakeview are always looking for different events and activities for the residents and we hope that the Vegas-themed activities will be a big hit.”

Furry friends pay special visit to care homes

A host of farmyard friends are set to spread a little animal magic when they visit two Great Wyrley care homes.

Mini Farm is due to drop in to Lakeview and Waters Edge Care Homes on August 18.

The visit will enable elderly residents at the homes to experience the sights, sounds and feel of the farm in the safety of the care home environment.

Staff and residents at the homes, which are part of a complex in Stafford Road run by Alpha Care Homes, are set to welcome a range of animals during the event, including pygmy goats, lambs, hens, rabbits and Vietnamese pot bellied pigs.

Kerry Jackson, Lakeview care home manager, said: “All the residents and staff at Lakeview and Waters Edge are really looking forward to the event.

“All the animals used for the visit are selected for their temperament and their welfare is always our paramount concern.

“Alpha Care Homes has invited other mobile farms to a number of its other homes and these events have always proved to be successful and enjoyable.”
