Bromson Hill - 08 December 2009

WITH LOVE FROM THE RESIDENTS AT BROMSON HILL CARE HOME!

Residents at a Warwickshire care home have been busy packing shoe boxes full of goodies for some of the poorest children in the world.

Staff, residents and their relatives from Bromson Hill Care Home, in Ashorne, near Warwick, donated items such as toys, hats, scarves, soap, toothpaste and jewellery for Operation Christmas Child – Samaritan’s Purse appeal.

They have now filled 13 shoe boxes, which have been sent for poor children in Eastern Europe and Africa.

Jackie Vernon, activities coordinator at the home, which is part of Alpha Care Homes, said: “Residents at the home enjoy packing the boxes and they choose whether the items are for a boy or girl and for which age group.

“They like to know that it will bring some Christmas joy to children in poorer parts of the world.”

The appeal last year sent a total of 1.3 million shoe boxes from the UK to children’s hospitals, orphanages, homeless shelters and impoverished neighbourhoods.

Residents like to be beside the seaside

A care home in Ashorne is set to bring all the fun of the seaside to its residents by recreating a day at the coast in its grounds.

Bromson Hill Care Home is set to hold a seaside themed day on July 29.

Staff will build a beach complete with deckchairs, parasols and buckets and spades at the home.

Residents will enjoy a fish and chip lunch before having a sing-a-long to their favourite holiday tunes.

Other activities planned for the day include a Punch and Judy show and ice creams.

Maggie Watts, care home manager, said everyone at the home was looking forward to the event.

“We decided to bring the seaside to the residents as we are a long way from the coast,” she said.

“It will be great fun for the staff and relatives to be involved in the event as well.

“I just hope we see some sunshine!”
